How to Be Financially Free: Interview with Kate Northrup

Today, I am speaking with my friend Kate Northrup.  I’ve known Kate for several years now and I am always amazed by her wise words. In this “do-over” interview (my computer crashed and I lost the original) we go over some great stuff – including Moby and Sparkly paintings. Hey life can’t always be so serious…

(We apologize for the glitch in the audio about halfway through. It’s worth it so watch away)

I wanted to interview Kate for the Flourish & Thrive Community for a few reasons:

  1. She was financially free at the age of 28 and teaches others how to be just as independent in their own lives.
  2. She believes that creating abundance in your life is directly related to what you value and not what you deprive yourself of.
  3. She speaks about happiness, gratitude and containing creative energy.
  4. She dates her finances and believes we all need to fall in love with our money.
  5. Plus, she is totally into yoga and Feng Shui

As designers who are trying to create financial abundance in our businesses, often times it comes down to aligning yourself with your money in just the right way. Kate is a master practitioner of being financially free and believes it’s available to anyone. She wrote a great blog post about the Spaciousness of Simplicity which she mentions in our little chat.

After you watch the video tell us the following in the comments:

About Kate

I’m a professional freedom seeker and creative entrepreneur. I created financial freedom for myself at the age of 28 through building a team of more than 1,000 wellness entrepreneurs in the network marketing industry. My philosophy is that if you free yourself financially you can be fully present to your purpose on the planet. I’m writing my first book, Money: A Love Story, that will be out with Hay House in Spring 2013. When I’m not writing I continue to mentor entrepreneurs in creating financial freedom. I also host my own online talk show, Glimpse TV, where I interview entrepreneurs and change-makers about loving life and being free. 1. I can totally relate to the both of you. I love to go out to dinner and I’ve been trying to Feng Shui my home for years. I’ve been on a deep soul searching lately and this feels so right. Thank you your E-mails have been so helpful to me.

  2. You really engaged me in your conversation. Felt I was right there with you. Unlike when I had a retail theatre specialty store where I was confronted at the end of the day with the cash flow of the business, I really have not had much of a “relationship” with my jewelry finances, except for the monthly sales tax reports and income tax. I plan to clear out all non-jewelry clutter from my work room, set aside Friday morn., also, for a date with my finances, pour a glass of Riesling wine, settle in my computer area, where I’m surrounded by many photos of friends and family, and record and plan. Then, I’ll probably take a long nap with my husband who has Alzheimer’s disease. That should be at least 3 action steps! ha!

  3. Thanks for the great ideas! I’ll probably date my money on Sunday nights after a day of studying (studying makes me feel amazing!), de-cluttering, and a delicious dinner. There will definitely be hot chocolate and dessert! All my jewelry making and business related activities go on in the “office side” of my bedroom (I’m a college student). It’s perfect though because my room is filled with photos and letters from friends and family. It’s great to feel their love and support while I’m pursuing my dreams!

  4. I truly, honestly never thought about setting a “date” with my finances. It’s kinda a game changer of an idea. I NEVER do finances (until the end of the year :P) because it’s such a drag, boring, confusing, and I’m covered in papers and files and such. But making it a fun, pleasurable time is just an awesome idea and I can’t wait to try it! TYTYTYTYTY -xo deb.
