Philanthropy and giving back are principles that Robin and I deeply believe in.

Throughout my years in business, I have often donated product or funds to charitable causes in an effort to raise money for charity.

On October 29th, along with many others on the Eastern Seaboard, I lost power in my apartment. How silly I was to think the power would be back up in a few hours or a day at the most. I went to bed that Monday evening a little earlier than usual. When I woke in the morning after a great quiet night sleep there was still no power or cell service. The people on the streets of Soho were wandering around, trying to find a pocket of cell service, someplace to get a cup of coffee and a power strip. It was so bizarre. I was able to borrow a woman’s phone and call my sister who lives in midtown. Luckily, she had power.

For Manhatttanites, the power outage was more of an inconvenience for the most part. There was some flooding in certain areas and others who lived in high rises were homebound for a week without any way to get food. However, those in the Staten Island and New Jersey were hit extremely hard. Those of you designers who live in NJ know what I am talking about.

In our course, Volume 1: Laying the Foundation, one of the designers mentioned that she wanted to do something to give back and help raise funds. Personally, I had already started a campaign to raise money for Sandy Victims. In addition to my own personal donation, I started a campaign with TracyMatthews.com to donate a minimum of 10% of my monthly sales (including RTW and custom work) volume to local charities, RedCross.org and Citymeals.org.

In addition to raising money individually, we thought we could incentivize you to start your own fundraising initiative to help those devastated by Hurricane Sandy. So we are holding a contest for a 30 minute Jewelry Business Laser Coaching sessions to any jewelry designers who desire to hold their own personal fundraiser with their jewelry brand.
