A brief story of what you do and why you do it.
For several years, I enjoyed jewelry making as a hobby. I left my accounting job to stay home with my three year old and my newborn. As my toddler turned into a kindergartener, and my newborn into a toddler, I began to think, “yes, I can make a living doing what I love, making jewelry”. In 2009, Creative Obsession LLC was born.
How did you get into jewelry design?
I've always been obsessed with jewelry. Wearing unique jewelry was my way of expressing my individuality. It was a joy to learn how to create it myself and share it with others.
What makes your collection unique?
I never make the same piece twice, and I combine all the different techniques I’ve learned over the years to create wonderful jewelry.
What are your inspirations?
I am inspired by nature, particularly the beach. I love the blues and greens of the ocean, the earth colors of the sand, and the copper shimmer of the sun on the water. You’ll find shell, coral, freshwater pearls, crystals, natural stones, glass, sterling, and other semi-precious stones found in nature in my jewelry art.
How are you making a difference in your life?
I love doing charity events. It feels great to be able to donate jewelry to silent auctions or donate a percent of sales at a charity house party. I also do a promotion on Facebook where my fans pick the charity and the type of jewelry I am to make and I auction it off on eBay when complete.
What's something unusual about you that makes you “you”?
I would view myself as unique for my passion for knowledge. There’s nothing in the jewelry world that I don’t want to know about or how to do. Even if it doesn’t fit into my business, I still want that knowledge.
What's the biggest struggle in running your jewelry business like a business?
I love the creative process and I can handle the accounting, but I am finding I have a lot to learn about sales strategy and marketing.
Jewelry is my obsession. I love raising my two boys & creating jewelry. We live in a small town in Connecticut.
