Designer Spotlight: Patricia Baranyai

A brief story of what you do and why you do it.

I design and hand solder a line of vintage style jewelry and exhibit my line at craft shows in Canada and the United States. I also sell my jewelry online and to stores. I have always had a love for jewelry and old world design. I love to design and photograph my jewelry in a way that reflects an age gone by.

How did you get into jewelry design?

After quitting my “real job” many years ago I began to make various things and pursue my desire to create an income using my artistic abilities. Once I started to make jewelry I became addicted and I still go to bed at night with visions of what I will create.

What makes your collection unique?

My collection is all hand soldered and professionally plated in a vintage gold. Some of my work incorporates hand sculpting and my original paintings.

What are your inspirations?

My inspiration comes from the Victorian, Edwardian and Art Nouveau period. I keep a library of books on antique jewelry and famous jewelry designers for inspirational reference.

How are you making a difference in your life?

I love that I have been able to stay at home with my girls who are 10 and 5 years old. When we travel to exhibit at shows we take them with us and they love that.

What's something unusual about you that makes you “you”?

I am a typical Gemini with many interests. I not only love vintage but, deeply appreciate all styles and periods. I am able to integrate my love for graphic design, fashion, jewelry design, photography and writing in a way that really enhances my business.

What's the biggest struggle in running your jewelry business like a business?

My biggest struggle is wearing too many hats and not having enough hours in the day to accomplish all that will help my business. I live in a world of constant interruptions which takes a toll on my ability to focus.

About Patricia

From the age of seven I have had a passion for the Victorian era and derive inspiration for my jewelry from the 1800's to the early 1900's.
