A brief story of what you do and why you do it.
I had been drawn to the world of healing for a very long time, but never quite knew how I would incorporate the healing aspect into my background, which was luxury goods retail. I strive to offer a personalized experience and connection, rather than just a piece of jewelry to wear.
How did you get into jewelry design?
After my career in the corporate world, I owned my own antiques and decor business. I was always drawn to jewelry, and started to add vintage piece to my mix of furniture and home accessories. I really had no intention or plan to start a jewelry business, it simply started out of playing around with some gemstones one day, and creating a necklace. From there, I felt a strong drive to explore the wonderful world of gemstones, and the rest is history, or “herstory”.
What makes your collection unique?
My collection is unique because of the way I work, which is to rely on my intuition. My process starts with the careful selection of gemstones. From there I am guided to create various collections. I rarely follow trends, or look at what other designers are doing. I find this keeps my work original, rather than by being influenced by market trends.
What are your inspirations?
I am inspired by many aspects of life, however there is always the aspect of Nature in every one of my collections. I also am drawn to ancient history, and indigenous cultures. I have been fortunate to have traveled extensively, I always find inspiration from far-a-way places.
How are you making a difference in your life?
My work has taught me a lot about expanding my creativity, staying positive, learning and growing from mistakes, always taking the high road, and not taking anything too personal. It’s a great life lesson, which spills into the personal part of my life, all for finding that place of true inner happiness and peace.
What's something unusual about you that makes you “you”?
I do not follow the crowd, I follow my heart. My desire is to create a beautiful piece, not to make a sale. I always strive to maintain authenticity, even in a very competitive marketplace.
What's the biggest struggle in running your jewelry business like a business?
I would not consider it a struggle, rather a challenge, in wearing a lot of different hats. Sometimes multiple hats at any given time. So it's important yo stay focused and “present”. Probably the one that is most challenging is the book keeping aspect of business.
