I don’t work on instagram. Makes it difficult to participate.

    • Robin on April 7, 2016 at 5:17 pm

      Ginger,

Instagram is worth checking out. It is an amazing tool that many designers in our community have experienced a lot of success in growing their brand.

Not on Instagram and now it has been acquired by Facebook am not happy about security and privacy issues

Not all of us are on social media or want to be

    • c on April 8, 2016 at 7:05 am

Am beginning to think my lack of social media access means I am doomed to fail in setting up a successful business!

      • Anna on April 9, 2016 at 4:31 am

Naw… certainly not doomed to fail.. you will just find other ways and doors to knock perhaps more “physically” on to succeed! Website and newsletter/email subscribers I keep hearing are gold, and surpass with conversions compared to other avenues of social media. Though I do see how social media can help to build our newsletter subscriptions, but certainly won’t doom you from being successful : )

        • c on April 9, 2016 at 2:08 pm

Thank you Anna 🙂 I will get my positive head on again

          • Anna on April 13, 2016 at 6:17 pm

That’s way more clever than I was execntipg. Thanks!

    • Tracy Matthews on April 21, 2016 at 11:00 am

I totally don’t think that you are doomed to fail if you aren’t on social media! We teach that business thrives by relationships, knowing full well that relationship building looks different for each and every designer in our community! As long as you are connecting with your customers and making them fell special and important to you then you don’t have to be on social media to be successful!

If your jewelry biz isn’t officially open for business yet (as mine is not), I’m wondering about challenge #7. I make OOAK pieces but would like to do custom as well. May I choose one of those areas to focus on and write what my intentions are for carrying out that process? I don’t have the real experience yet to say what my process currently IS, as it hasn’t actually happened yet. I feel this is a very helpful challenge but I just wanted to double check if that is acceptable. I wanna win this thing!! 😆 Thanks for the opportunity and all the food for thought these challenges have provided.

    • Tracy Matthews on April 21, 2016 at 11:02 am

Yes! You can choose either of those areas and develop a plan for what you will be doing to carry out the process once you get your business open. Having a plan is so essential at the beginning of a business. I hope you found the exercise helpful!
