A brief story of what you do and why you do it.

In 2013 I started making jewellery as something to keep my new mommy hands (and mind) busy. I made pieces for my mother and mother in-law for Mother's Day and word of mouth started turning into requests for custom orders. Before I knew it I had opened my own website shop as Katye Landry Designs and I now have clients all over the world. I accidentally fell into my passion and I am so thankful.

How did you get into jewelry design?

I saw something online that I wanted to buy for my mother and mother in-laws for Mother's Day and being a new mom with lots of time on my hands (newborns sleep a lot!) I thought, why can't I make that? After I gave them their pieces their friends started asking if they could have one too!

What makes your collection unique?

All my pieces are handmade in my home studio. My designs are simple yet make a statement and can take you from getting a Starbucks to a night out on the town.

What are your inspirations?

My inspirations come from everyday life. Life is full of beautiful shapes, colours and textures that I really try to bring out in my pieces.

How are you making a difference in your life?

Doing something that you love really changes the quality of your life. Before making Jewellery I didn't have that “thing” that was mine, that I was passionate about (other then my family of course). Finding what you are meant to do is a true gift.

What's the biggest struggle in running your jewelry business like a business? OR What is your biggest success in running your business like a business?

My biggest struggle is also having a full-time job, husband and an almost 2 year old. Spreading out your time to give enough of it to your business so that you thrive is very challenging. My biggest success however is loving what I do which really drives me to keep going. It was while on maternity leave that Katye discovered her passion for creating jewellery. Word of mouth spread quickly, and before she knew it, people (friends, family and even strangers!) were placing orders. It was then that Katye Landry Designs was born. Self-taught, Katye's jewellery is simple and elegant, and can transform from being casual day wear, into night-on-the town wear.
