Designer Spotlight: Kostantinos Georgopoulos

A brief story of what you do and why you do it.

I create jewels mostly of sterling silver, copper and bronze. Recently I started using baked glass, resin, enamels and various other medias. I do what I do, first of all, because I love craftsmanship. There is nothing better that seeing your own creations worn by others. It makes me happy and it keeps motivating me.

How did you get into jewelry design?

My father used to travel all around Greece selling jewels. Most of his friends were jewelry makers. One summer at the age of 13 I worked in a jewelry workshop as an assistant. That was it. The “bug” got into me.

What makes your collection unique?

Everything that I have created is unique for me. It might not be for others. I put my heart and soul in everything I design and I hope that it will be reflected to every customer of mine.

What are your inspirations?

My wife, my children, nature, fairy tales, images of the world, toys, drawings.

How are you making a difference in your life?

By being optimistic and positive. The times are hard, but we have to realize that our health is the most important thing in the world. The rest will follow.

What's something unusual about you that makes you “you”?

My friends always say to me “how do you keep being happy and optimistic. Things are not so well, commerce is going down, etc.” If you let things affect you, then you will also go down. Don't. Life is more than paying bills and earning money. Just live each day in your life as it is your last day on the planet.

What is your biggest success in running your business like a business?

Whether you believe it or not, my wife is a big support for me. She has a regular day job and at the same time she finds time to help me with the secondary works of the workshop (paying bills, running facebook page, preparing catalogues, etc.). Moreover, I am trying to keep prices, in retail and wholesale, low. Each new piece I make, I try to create something unique and colorful.
