Episode #582: Human-First AI: How to Stay Creative, Free, and Ahead of the Curve with Callan Faulkner

What If AI Is the Thing That Finally Gives Your Creativity Back?

Every week, I talk to creative entrepreneurs who are scared. Not of failing. Not of competition. Of AI. They are scared it is going to make their work feel less human, take the jobs they love, or somehow flatten the magic that makes their brand theirs.

I get it. I really do. But after this conversation with Callan Faulkner, I am more convinced than ever that the creatives who lean into AI are going to be the ones who thrive in this next era. Not because they are tech nerds. But because they are creative enough to see what is possible.

Meet Callan Faulkner

Callan is the founder of The Uncommon Business, an AI education company that has trained over 50,000 leaders on how to build, train, and deploy AI employees in their businesses. She runs her own company with a team of seven, a 48% profit margin, and absolutely zero sales staff. Her secret weapon is not hustle. It is how she uses AI to run the parts of the business that used to eat her alive.

She is also one of the most refreshingly direct people I know. She has hot takes and she backs them up with data. And she is not afraid to say the quiet parts out loud.

In This Episode, You Will Learn:

  • 00:01 Why the AI conversation has reached a new level of urgency in 2026
  • 06:22 Callan's background and how she built a multi-million dollar company with no sales team
  • 08:13 The real role of humans in an AI-powered business world
  • 14:49 Why Callan believes an MBA is one of the worst investments right now
  • 18:16 The $5M job offer she turned down and what it revealed about purpose
  • 21:53 The actual data behind AI's environmental impact
  • 26:56 What happens to people who get AI training after a layoff
  • 30:18 What a fully AI-powered business actually feels like day to day

The Myth That AI Kills Creativity

Here is the thing that drives me absolutely wild: people say AI destroys creativity, but they are usually saying it while manually doing tasks that have nothing to do with their creative gifts. Chasing invoices. Drafting captions. Updating their website. Answering the same client questions for the hundredth time.

Callan made a point in this episode that I want you to sit with. She said she has never felt more creative in her life than since she started using AI. Because when the busywork is handled, what is left? The actual creative work. The visionary thinking. The stuff only you can do.

That is what AI is supposed to do for you. Not replace your voice. Free it.

The Environmental Argument, Addressed

If you have seen the comments on social media about AI and water usage, you know this is a hot topic. Callan addressed it directly and backed it up with real numbers. Three hundred separate chats on ChatGPT is equivalent to one hour of watching Netflix in terms of energy usage. Google has increased their AI energy efficiency by 33x in the last twelve months alone. And by 2030, AI is projected to create the equivalent of removing one billion cars from the road through supply chain and logistics optimization.

The fear narrative is not wrong, but it is incomplete. And incomplete information leads to bad decisions, especially for business owners.

The Difference Between Using AI and Architecting It

This might be the most important concept from the entire episode. There is a huge difference between dropping into Claude or ChatGPT and typing a prompt, versus actually building AI employees that do autonomous work in your business while you are not even at your desk.

Callan gave an incredible example of her director of paid ads, Carol. Carol used to spend $4,000 a month outsourcing static ad creation. Now she has built an AI employee that researches competitors, monitors what organic content is performing, pulls transcripts, generates ad options, and delivers finished creative to a Google Drive folder for review. The whole thing runs without Carol touching it.

That is not using AI. That is orchestrating it.

Where to Start

If this episode has you curious and slightly overwhelmed, start with Callan's AI Boot Camp. It is three days, $47 for a regular ticket and $197 for VIP. She walks you through the actual tools, the real workflows, and shows you live how AI employees are built and deployed. After the boot camp, her 12-week Automate to Accelerate program takes you all the way to graduating as an AI architect. And if you just want a foundational recorded course you can start right now, Superhuman Work is available on her website.

And for my jewelry designers who are ready to bring AI into their marketing specifically, go check out Desire AI. We built it for you.
