In today’s podcast, I sat down with Andrea Ayers, an entrepreneur and PR maven from Launch Grow Joy! Andrea has been a good friend of mine for a while, and I’m so excited to finally have her on the show!

Today’s conversation is ALL about how to make more sales online without necessarily increasing traffic, so let’s jump in with some of my biggest takeaways!

Crystal Clear Goals

Designers tend to think that they don’t need a detailed business plan or clear cut goals, especially if they’re just starting out. But in all our courses at Flourish & Thrive Academy, we stress the importance of goals and planning because, simply put, it provides the structure that every business needs.

Having a vague idea of where you want your business to be at the end of 2016 isn’t going to help you achieve any goals. Instead, map out a business plan for the year with clear monthly and weekly goals so you can push your business in the right direction every single day.

Stop Focusing on Your Traffic

If you’ve been selling online, you’ll be very familiar with the temptation to completely focus on driving traffic to your site. There are a million sites and courses that can tell you how to get all the traffic in the world, but Andrea reminded us all of one little detail: Traffic does not necessarily mean sales.

Instead, she suggests we all take the time to drive our conversion rates up and lead each and every visitor to the sale with a strong call to action. This simply shift in mindset is a crucial step that can open up dialogue with your desired DREAM clients, instead of attracting less than ideal visitors who may or may not buy.

Your Website Is NOT About You

As Andrea says in the episode above, one of the first exercises she tells entrepreneurs to do is to take a look at their website and about page and ask themselves this: Is this about my DREAM client or is this about me? So often, we as designers will talk about where we were trained in our about pages, and our bios read almost like a resume.

Instead, ask yourself, what does your ideal, DREAM client want to know about you? Even if you are attracting the clients you desire, is your website a place they would like to spend time exploring? Take a listen to the podcast (above) to hear our tips on how simply changes in copy can make all the difference.

Create Opportunities for Trust

Your site probably isn’t well-known enough to ring a bell in everyone’s mind. More often than not, visitors who first land on your site will have never heard of you, and will want to know more. At the end of the day, people want to know who you are and if you’re a reputable company before they even think about buying.

Andrea shares quite a few ways to build up what we call the ‘Know, Like, and Trust’ factor in the podcast, but one major tip she recommends is updated, full-fledged contact information. Having direct contact information, such as emails and phone numbers, can make buyers feel welcomed and, for lack of a better word, ‘safe’ when buying from you.

Andrea is SUCH a wealth of information on all aspects of the ‘Know, Like, and Trust’ factor, so don’t forget to press ‘play’ and tune into the episode above!
