Social media can’t replace an email list… 

A lot of people these days want to check out from the conversation about email lists because they have a huge social media following. I get it. Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest have done wonders for small businesses. But here’s the thing… 

When it comes to those platforms, you have no control! You’re at the mercy of their terms of use and policies. One mistake and you could lose the following you worked so hard to create. 

So don’t ditch your social media following, just know it needs to be backed up with a strong email list. Because that’s where you have control. It may sound cheesy but the money really is in the list. 

So let’s get into a few of those list building strategies…. 

Strategically placed opt-ins 

Your website should have not just one but SEVERAL places where someone is invited to opt-in. One of the most important things you can do is to place that offer “above the fold” on your site. That basically means, as soon as someone lands on your site, they see the offer without needing to scroll at all. 

Another of the most popular and effective ways to use an opt-in offer is to have a pop-up on each page of your site. 

Referrals, giveaways, and rewards

Capturing the traffic on your site is extremely valuable. But it also pays to find ways to bring in new subscribers from other sources! Referral bonuses, giveaways, and rewards are a really great way to do this! 

You know the ones… “Share with a friend and get 20% off your next order,” for example. Or if you have that strong social media following, harness it through a giveaway and build your email list with new names. 

Quizzes, self-assessments, and surveys

People absolutely love finding out more about themselves! So anything that helps them understand a part of themselves is an easy way to get someone to opt-in. You might create a quiz on a topic like, What’s Your Jewelry Personality Type or What Your Jewelry Says About Your Sex in the City Avatar. 

Get really creative and think outside the box! What would your customer love to know about themselves? 

There are so many fun and different ways to help build up a strong list. And the great thing is – once you grow your list, you have the opportunity to nurture those leads and turns them into actual buying customers
